Description

Nestled in the center of the Royal District lies the Palace of the Mermaid Queen, a shimmering, iridescent spiral of architecture and artistry. While this place is home to the Queen and her family, it also serves as a meeting place for the Royal Council of Anglers, the governing body of the mermaids.

Unlike the surface governmental buildings that are guarded by metal detectors or security cameras, the mermaids forego technological security in favor of physical security. The main chamber of the royal palace, decorated with mosaics and inset various gems of the ocean, is open to the public for tours and viewings by popular demand, but the actual council rooms--as well as the living quarters of the royal family--are all heavily protected by members of the royal guard. Unless she has requested your presence personally, nobody is allowed to speak directly to the Mermaid Queen in her throne room unless given explicit permission after a series of interviews with the members of her personal council.

However, the Mermaid Queen will make public appearances a few times a year for the various festivals the mermaids hold. The palace has been known to participate in these festivals as well, celebrating their community by decorating the palace exterior in hundreds of thousands of chains made from shells, pearls, and trinkets from the surface world that found their way into the waters below Madrenice.
